Sony opens up about the PS3 Motion Controller Getting There

Sony opens up about the PS3 Motion Controller PS3MotionControl thumb Lazygamer

Sony and Microsoft are lining up once again to go head to head in the gaming wars and this time it’s going to be with motion controllers.

During and shortly after E3 I was firmly in the mindset that Microsoft’s Project Natal was the better option mainly because of the added ability to control your media and dashboard interaction without a remote.

However when it comes to gaming I am starting to think that Sony has the upper hand. Recently Sony sent out a document to development partners explaining how the motion controller will work and what they have planned for it.

The first thing that jumped out at me was the fact that the PS3 motion controller will ship with force feedback and rumble, this is not a minor point to pass over as Sony has already realised previously how badly it is taken when you ship without this.

Now imagine you are playing an archery game and have fully extended the bow, which console would you prefer to be playing this on? The one where you are standing in the lounge with nothing in your hand or the one where your hand is vibrating and becoming difficult to keep this posture with? I know I would prefer the more realistic feeling of the PS3’s controller.

Sony’s current plan is to allow 4 motion controllers at once with the added possibility of using the DualShock 3 as a ‘nunchuck’ styled accessory.

Unfortunately we won’t be seeing any of this until at least midway through next year so it’s still a while away.
