Some non Official pictures of the Sony Wand SonyWand1 thumb Lazygamer

The T3 guys have put their creative heads together with their friends at The Alloy to come up with their predicted design up the upcoming Sony PS3 Wand (Gem, Motion Controller, Globe)

Now I realise that I may be a dirty old man but this thing just looks overly phallic to me. Granted It’s a bit hard to make it look like anything else but I’m just not comfortable looking at it for too long.

There are some more pictures after the break and an entire gallery over at T3 through the link.

What do you think, would you buy some of these?

Just love the pink glow on the ‘bulb’ there . How is it possible not to make a wand or lightsaber look geeky…

Bobby Kotick is Bobby Kotick

@Fred and Onelargeprawn: LOL It reminds me of a prop from one of those hilarious 1950 period Sci Fi movies.

@Gerald: Far less then the number of xbox 360s we’ve already replaced (I’ve had 5 RROD on me, the last one, I fixed myself until it recently died again).

You have to hand it to the Japanese, they do not buy into the American philosophy of designed obsolescence (i.e. items purposefully built to break sooner than later).

Ironically, it’s what nailed the American car industry in the 70s (and early 80s), and one of the reasons why General Motors, chevrolet and even Ford struggled against the influx of Japanese-made (and even German-made) cars. The public grew tired of their shoddy products and revolted.

Even to this day, American cars are not synonymous with quality, the sad thing is, that Microsoft is not learning from history. They may in fact be reaping the rewards from designed obsolescence, but it’s a bit like a cup with a few holes in it, eventually the water is going to run dry.

    easy

you have to remember that america is the land of abundance, and to replace your car every 2-3 years is not uncommon. whereas europeans and the japanese are generally more pragmatic and money conscious.
which is evident in the quality of their products.
this is all a generalisation of course

Bobby Kotick swimming in your wallet

Easy, that may have been true a year or two ago, but they’re feeling the recession just as much as we are, if not more. As South Africans, we’re used to a depreciated currency, and when we buy a luxury item, we commonly do so at a premium and under the understanding that that item has to be of a higher quality (sadly this is not always the case i.e. the xbox 360).

It may sound vindictive, but I sincerely hope that the recession continues for another few years (or even worsens), hopefully then US consumers will start to behave more sensibly, and in turn stamp out this ridiculous behaviour from their local companies (I’m not merely targeting Microsoft, since even Apple is guilty of designed obsolescence, any one who have owned an ipod, is probably on their second or third by now, since that damn thing dies after only a year or so).
